365 Inspirations—144: Asking for Your Good Wishes

"The healthy and strong individual is the one who asks for help when he needs it. Whether he's got an abscess on his knee or in his soul."—Rona Barrett

I hope you've enjoyed my daily posts for nearly 5 months! I don't ask for much here, but today I'm asking for your good thoughts and wishes.

Today, at 2pm I have to go in for a colonoscopy. Nothing major, just a check up, so don't worry. However, my fasting experience I wrote about yesterday went from good to worse. The fasting part was fine, but the solution they give you to drink that is used to "clean" the colon, was not a pleasant experience. And there is A LOT of it to drink. Have you ever done anything like this?

I haven't and I'm kind of scared.

For the procedure they have to put me out. I've never been put out in my life! It's only for about an hour. Apparently I'll be awake, but will have little memory of the experience. That sounds a bit like hypnosis! ^_^

Anyway, I'm writing about it here for support because right now I need a little. I know it sounds kind of funny. It a common procedure, but I hardly ever visit the doctor, so for me it's pretty big.

My husband is going to drive me to the hospital at 1pm today and he'll remain there until I'm finished at around 3:30pm and drive me home.

I have to sign a consent form in case something happens. I know I will be fine, but I said to my husband this morning, "If I don't make it out, you can have all my clothes and my bicycle."

I was joking of course. He smiled and said, "You'll be fine and I love you."

And then he added, "And I'll enjoy riding your bicycle."

"Hey! Wait! What do you mean?" I asked, surprised.

"Just kidding!" he said.

I feel lucky to have a partner who makes me laugh and who I also know is there for me no matter what.

Thanks for being here, for commenting, for reading my posts and for all your support. I really appreciate it.

Have you ever undergone a medical procedure that required you to stay in the hospital? How did you feel?

  1. since I am 70 I have now gone through this 2 times in the past 20 years....the first time was horrid the last time not so icky as they changed what you have to drnk. You will be fine-and it is a bit scary, but what got me is after this last one a few months ago the doctor said to me- "Well you can decide later if you want to do this again in 10 years" I'll be 80 then? good grief...

    1. Hi Kathe,

Thanks so much for commenting here. I made it out just fine and the doctor said everything looked good, so I'm relieved. Yes, good grief, do you really need to do one every 10 years! You look much YOUNGER!

  2. I will be thinking of you, Katherine, and hoping for the best for you! My husband has had a colonoscopy. He did not enjoy the prep for it, either, but that was the worst part for him. The procedure itself was not bad. I can certainly understand your concern about it. Any kind of medical procedure can be anxiety-producing. Just know that lots of good thoughts and blessings are coming your way.

    1. Hi Tina,

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave me a note. You are right about both the prep and the procedure. I'm fine and made it out without needing follow ups, etc. Yes, hospitals do give me anxiety. I faced many of my fears today. I appreciate you support and good wishes! They were very helpful!

I send you a big hug.
    Everything will be just fine.

    1. Hi Marika, Thank you for the loving message. You are right, I had a laugh with the doctor in the operating room and that eased things up a bit. I'm so happy you enjoyed my book. That makes my day! Thanks again!!!

  4. I had one done two years ago. I was scared just like you. Everything will be just fine. You really don't remember what goes on and then I was awake and getting dressed. Then I was home and all was great. I too do not drink enough. I am in a perpetual state of dehydration especially in the summer here in Phoenix.

    So, how did it go??

    1. It went just fine Karen! Thanks for thinking of me. It was so helpful to get these comments. It made the process much easier for me. Yes, I realize I need to drink much more than I do. It all turned out just fine and I appreciate your comments! Really, I do!

    1. Ha! This comment made me smile Laurie ^_^! Yes, my bike is still mine...I made it out alive. Not that there was any real doubt. But I have a phobia of hospitals. I so appreciate you commenting here!

  6. That prep is the worst, worst, worst of it! Now you can offer sympathy to others going through the same thing.

    1. Yes, it is absolutely the worst, but I made it through alive. I'm here to offer any sympathy for ANYONE who has to have this done. I think we all need it. Thanks for paying a visit Linda!

  7. I had my wisdom teeth removed about 8 years ago and it's so weird to wake up and realize that time has literally passed without you even knowing it. How much can the world change in that time? I'm glad everything turned out fine! My mom had colon cancer, so at some point soon, I'm going to be getting my first colonoscopy and will be doing them every few years for maintenance. It's inconvenient at best, but can be life saving. Don't be afraid, no matter how... shitty. ;) blessings to you, Katherine!
