365 Inspirations—55: No Plans

“It's a funny thing, how much time we spend planning our lives. We so convince ourselves of what we want to do, that sometimes we don't see what we're meant to do.” —Susan Gregg Gilmore

It's Sunday and I have no plans, really.

On Saturday, we had friends over for dinner and we went shopping and cooked a meal together. Normally when friends come over, I try to have the dinner ready, but they wanted to be part of the process and it worked out great! I also learned a new way to prepare steaks and now I've got plans for my Crock Pot.

Today is Sunday and I have no plans or commitments, but I do have a very long list of things to do. I purposely left Sunday free. I am one of those people who needs lots of free gaps in my schedule where I may or may not attack my to-do list. I just want to have the option.

I know people who schedule things down to the last hour of their weekend. I could never do that. I think we all need unstructured time to just relax and see what pops up.

I feel particularly tired today because last night from 2:30-3:30AM, a helicopter circled the neighborhood where I live in Seattle. It was so loud it felt like they were going to land in my backyard. I still don't know what it was all about.

Needless to say, I was exhausted today from not being able to sleep. I spent most of the afternoon at home and just recently went and ran a few errands.

Tonight I'm actually going to try and attack a few things on my "to-do" list, but I  also hope to read and relax.

We'll see what happens!

Do you like to plan your weekend out or do you like to have unstructured time on the weekend?

  1. I like unstructured time! During the week, I have more of a schedule to follow, so it's nice to have time to just be, to do something or do nothing!

  2. I believe it is terribly important for children to have unstructured time in their family lives. It makes me sad to see children and families so geared into planning every moment of their lives.

If I have something that needs to be done I do that first up if possible - I pencil in appointments and dates that have to be set aside but generally my life these days goes with the flow of what ever takes my fancy that day. I do not have set shopping days or washing days or stuff like that.. I feel I am very lucky.

    1. I agree with you about kids having unstructured time in their lives. They need that time to explore things on their own.

I'm a procrastinator, bo I do the things I need to do last! I'm working on changing this habit, but when the end of the week rolls around, I kind of just let loose ^_^!

    1. Yes, I'm very rebellious too when it comes to having too much on my plate, so I've decided to keep the plate primarily empty when free time rolls around.

  4. I personally apreciate unstructured time.
Most of the week is planned,
at least during the weekends I am free to do whatever I wish to.
I often take that time to read, write or rest :)

    Take care**

    1. Yes, as a teacher, my week is structured and planned too. That is hard for me because the writer/blogger in me wants unstructured time to create. I usually have to get that unstructured time on the weekends. Take care!

  6. Unstructured is my preference, and basically how my life is 7 days a week. Exception being the occasional trip to town. Thanks for the post look forward to following you as well.

    1. Your life of unstructured-ness sounds divine. I get that on school breaks, but teaching keeps me on a schedule. It's been hard to get book writing in with a full-time teaching schedule, so I need to make time for that. At some point in the not so distant future, I will reduce my teaching hours to devote myself to unstructured writing time!

  7. Almost every weekend I'm at work. The trade off is I'm free as a bird on Monday and Tuesday.
I get to paint, write, read, ski...I feel like I'm the only one who has the day off!
