365 Inspirations—49: Cleaning House

"I'm not going to vacuum until Sears makes one you can ride on." —Roseanne Barr

Cleaning house is not my favorite thing to think about doing, but it feels so good after it's all done.

I feel the need to clean house today. Don't know what that is all about. I mostly feel like I need to get organized. A friend came over today for lunch and I enjoyed cooking for her. We had a nice conversation and meal. I cleaned the house on the surface, but want to attack some closets and my office.

Sometimes I feel like I can't think clearly until things are somewhat organized. Today is one of those days.

I'm going to start with the bedroom closet and then move to my office and get that organized. It's Presidents Day, so I don't have to work, but I have lots to do before the week starts up again.

I'm feeling the need to tend to things that I've been avoiding for some time—namely the state of my house. On the surface it looks fine, but dig deeper and you'll find it's really in a state of disarray, much like my mind today.

So off I go to tidy my little house and hopefully sweep up the cobwebs of my mind.

Do you often feel that cleaning or organizing your house helps your state of mind?

  1. Yes, cleaning and organizing make me feel so good--but it's the getting there that's the problem! :-) I really don't enjoy housework. I dread it before I do it, but I'm so glad when it's done.

  2. I actually enjoy cleaning the house. (I know, I know). It's not like it's a hobby or anything but I like to get up Saturday morning, make some coffee and clean until about noon. That way when I go out to run errands and stuff for the week I come home to a nice clean house. Such a good feeling! And bonus if it is nice weather and I can get all the windows open too! It just settles my mind to have everything in it's place. I don't like clutter and I only keep things in my home that I love, so it's not like I have stuff laying around to clean around. I get up, get it done, and enjoy the results.

Also, when people need help, you know, illness or having a baby or any type of crisis at all, I volunteer to do their laundry. Some people like to make them meals, some people want to have coffee with them, etc, but I always offer to catch them up on their laundry. When you are sick or sad or overwhelmed there is nothing better than clean clothes, clean sheets, and a clean bathroom! Someone did that once for me and I pay it forward when I can. It truly is a wonderful blessing to have it done for you.

Everybody has a thing. That's mine.

    1. I LOVE this Sandy. What a beautiful gift! If I could just tend to my own house for once, maybe I could see about extending that to someone else who really needs it! Thanks!

  3. I so agree with Sandy. My step daughter has just had a baby and her Mum went over to clean and she got upset at first. Now she understands and appreciates it very much. I have been sorting my house out for weeks now and am down to one room to sort. I just love to know where to find something when I want it, especially my cloths folded and put away in the cupboard....

    1. How wonderful it must feel to have your house sorted down to ONE room left! I think I'm going to start to slowly "sort" rooms. It's almost spring and it's a good time to start. How wonderful that your step daughter's mother is helping out with cleaning, etc. So nice of her!

  4. It really does Katherine. I feel in such a great mood after I've cleaned. It makes me feel productive and accomplished. Now, if only I could do it more often...

  5. I do like to clean and organize.
It almost seem as we are cleaning our minds as well...and renewing our energies, I would say.

    Kind regards
